Rescue Story

On 27th Dec 2013, we have received a private message on Weibo from a witness asking for help to rescue a dog, the message read:

“Hello. I found an abandoned Samoyed, he seemed very ill and lost most of his fur, he looks like a freak. Please rescue him. He wouldn’t make it through this winter.” After more communication, we discovered the person who messaged us was a resident at the local residential community where the dog was seen and perhaps abandoned, but this person didn’t want to take the responsibility to rescue the dog.

After digging in deeper, we received more information from this witness:

”The dog’s location was at South Huauan residential community, next to Huoying Tube station line 13. I work full-time, cannot take care of a dog, but I couldn’t stand that dog left to die, so I contacted you guys. I don’t know any other rescuers or groups, and I prefer to contact a trustworthy organisation than an individual. That Samoyed was owned by the staff at a nearby car wash place, I’ve seen him before, but noticed he started to loose fur and I thought the owner should take the dog to the hospital for treatment. But every time I saw the dog, he seemed have lost more fur. I’ve not seen that dog in a while, until recently found him struggling to survive at the entrance to the residential community on an abandoned couch behind the newsagent to keep warm. My contact number is 138 102 xxxxx if you need to contact me.”

On the same day we received the message, we sent our frontline rescuer to the dog’s location right away, he found the Samoyed was shivering on the broken couch and took him straight to the vet at Tiantongyuan Perfect Animal Hospital.

The dog was having a high fever at temperature 39.4°C, smelly all over his body with many bloody scabs bursting with dust and blood.

The nurses saw the dog and couldn’t believe what a terrible condition he was in, and started treating his fur and skin immediately.

They shaved off his matted fur and carefully shaved the remaining fur around his head. Then gave him a warm bath while cleaning off the blood scabs on his skin, during the process he had bled quite a bit as you could tell on the photo.

After immediate treatment and a good cleanup of his matted fur and broken skin, the little boy seemed better already.

We named him Snow, as we wish him will fully recover and get his snow white Samoyed look back and be healthy and happy ever after! Funnily, our international team started to call him Jon Snow, same name as the character in Game of Thrones, who has been a favourite character of many who watch the show.
